Heartsaver CPR / AED Provider

The Heartsaver AED course teaches the lifesaving skills of 1-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and relief of choking in adults (with an option to include child and infants) along with barrier device/pocket mask use, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. Participants learn to recognize and treat emergencies such as cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, and choking. This course is open to the general public and first responders who want to respond to a cardiac emergency.

Heartsaver CPR / AED Provider (C)

The Heartsaver AED (C) course teaches the lifesaving skills of 1-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and relief of choking in adults (with an option to include child and infants) along with barrier device/pocket mask use, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. BLS for Healthcare Provider (C)

The BLS for Healthcare Provider (C) course skills taught are 1- and 2-rescuer adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking, automated external defibrillator (AED) training and the use of bag valve mask (BVM). The course is designed for healthcare providers who need a credentialed course and is also open to first responders who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

BLS for Healthcare Provider (C) Renewal

The BLS Healthcare Provider (C) Renewal course is offered to those who wish to update their knowledge and skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). You must have successfully completed the Healthcare Provider (C) course within the past 12 months. The skills re-evaluated are 1- and 2-rescuer adult, child and infant CPR, choking, including the use of barrier device/pocket mask use, bag valve mask (BVM), and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Heartsaver Instructor

The Heartsaver Instructor Course has two modules, the Core Instructor Course and the Specific module on Heartsaver course delivery and materials. The Core Instructor Course (CIC) is a foundation course required by all HSFC instructor candidates. This course is comprised of a pre-learning on-line module as well as an in-class module The course teaches instructor candidates how to apply effective communication techniques, manage the classroom environment, and promote knowledge and skill transfer and retention. The specific Heartsaver module introduces the student to the educational materials and syllabus utilized in the delivery of the HSFC Heartsaver CPR/AED provider course.

Heartsaver Instructor Renewal

To maintain registration with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, a BLS Heartsaver Instructor is required every three years. To complete a Heartsaver Instructor Renewal course. Completion ensures that the Heartsaver Instructor receives current curriculum and Guidelines, and is re-evaluated in their skills.

Heartsaver Instructor Guideline Update

The Guideline Update is a course that all active, registered HSFC instructors and Instructor Candidates (BLS, ACLS, and PALS) are required to attend when the Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular change (approximately every 5 years). The course introduces instructors to changes to the Guidelines and the rationale for those changes, the revised educational delivery techniques and materials, and the syllabus utilized in courses offered by HSFC.

Mandated Student Materials:

  • As determined by HSFC during the Guidelines change process

The BLS Instructor Trainer course is designed to enable existing HSFC Instructors to teach HSFC instructor level courses. Instructor trainers are integral in maintaining the high teaching standards set by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
