Heartsaver CPR / AED Provider

The Heartsaver AED course teaches the lifesaving skills of 1-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and relief of choking in adults (with an option to include child and infants) along with barrier device/pocket mask use, and automated external defibrillator (AED) training. Participants learn to recognize and treat emergencies such as cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, and choking. This course is open to the general public and first responders who want to respond to a cardiac emergency.

Heartsaver CPR / AED Provider (C)

BLS for Healthcare Provider (C)

The BLS for Healthcare Provider (C) course skills taught are 1- and 2-rescuer adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking, automated external defibrillator (AED) training and the use of bag valve mask (BVM). The course is designed for healthcare providers who need a credentialed course and is also open to first responders who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

BLS for Healthcare Provider (C) Renewal

The BLS Healthcare Provider (C) Renewal course is offered to those who wish to update their knowledge and skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). You must have successfully completed the Healthcare Provider (C) course within the past 12 months. The skills re-evaluated are 1- and 2-rescuer adult, child and infant CPR, choking, including the use of barrier device/pocket mask use, bag valve mask (BVM), and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Basic Life Saver (BLS) Instructor Courses

BLS Heartsaver Instructor

The Heartsaver Instructor Course is a two-day program comprised of two modules: the Core Training Program (Core); and the specific Heartsaver module. The Core Program covers general information pertaining to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the adult education principles utilized within HSF courses. The Instructor-Candidate will be introduced to HSF policies, procedures and administration requirements for delivering an HSF course, including use of the Resuscitation portal as part of pre- and post-course preparation. The specific Heartsaver module introduces the student to the educational materials and syllabus utilized in the delivery of the HSF Heartsaver provider and renewal courses.

BLS Heartsaver Instructor Renewal

To maintain registration with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a BLS Heartsaver Instructor Renewal course is required every three years. Completion ensures that the Heartsaver Instructor receives current curriculum and guidelines, and is re-evaluated in their skills. The Heartsaver Instructor Renewal course builds upon the educational learning gained within the original instructor course.

BLS Heartsaver Instructor Guideline Update

The Guideline Update is a course that all active, registered HSF instructors and Instructor-Candidates (BLS, First Aid, ACLS, and PALS) are required to attend when the Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care change (approximately every 5 years). The course introduces instructors to changes to the guidelines and the rationale for those changes, the revised educational delivery techniques and materials, and the syllabus utilized in courses offered by HSF.

Mandated Student Materials:

  • As determined by HSF during the Guidelines change process
